Usability

How effective a web site is, has everything to do with Usability. Usability addresses the relationship between tools and users. If a tool is going to be successful, it must allow users to accomplish their tasks in the most efficient way. In order for a web site to work, users must be able to use them effectively.

What makes a web site usable depends on a number of factors. Them being, how well the functionality fits the users needs, how well the response of the application fits the users expectations, and how well the flow through applications fit the users tasks. The best way to design a web site that does this, is to get information from users who actually use the system. Usability is the characteristic of a web site that makes it easy to use, easy to learn, and easy to remember. If you do not have that, you will not have a functioning web site.

Usability is important because it can make the difference between performing a task accurately and completely or not at all. It changes how you feel, whether you enjoy the process or are completely frustrated with it. It also can mean the difference between the success or failure of a web site. If there is a lack of usability users will tend to find web sites that are more user-friendly.
